Sleep Hack Of The Week

Picture this.

It’s a cold winters night.

Your bedroom is FREEZING.

You’re trying to sleep, but you can’t.

And you know exactly why.

You can’t stop thinking about it.

You know, that idea you had last night.

Matter of fact … you haven’t been able to think about anything else all day.

You’ve thought of the name - that part was easy.

But the colour? It could make or break it.

But suddenly… it hits you.

DUH! What colour resonates with sleep?

Purple. Why? Lavender, of course.

You jump out of bed and starting playing around with different colour combinations. You find the perfect variant of purple. The rest is history.

That’s how the COZO colour came to be.

And for a good reason.

Lavender is one of the more important tools you can use to improve your sleep.

It’s helped me immensely.

Beautiful, aren’t they?

What is Lavender?

Lavender is a flagrant flower that originated in the Mediterranean.

It’s been used for thousands of years dating back to, you guessed it, the Egyptians.

The word comes from the latin word ‘lavare’ which means ‘to wash’.

I should start telling my housemates to ‘lavare’ some more but carrying on…

How does Lavender actually help my sleep?

The benefits come from its scent.

Lavender has calming and sedative properties that relax your body and mind.

Just from smelling Lavender, it’s proven to slow down your heartbeat and relax your muscles.

Talk about a sleep cheat code!

But how can we use it?

The BEST ways to use Lavender

The quickest way to absorb Lavender and feel its effect is directly through the skin.

Lavender oil is the easiest way.

Place 2-3 droplets on your forehead 20 minutes before bed.

Unlike other potent essential oils, lavender oil can be applied to your skin without any negative impact.

This will have a sedative effect on your brain with your temple being the most impactful place to feel drowsy and ready for bed.

Not a fan of oils on your skin?

Here are alternatives:

🛁 Lavender Bath - Add some lavender oil or dry lavender flower to a warm bath just before you go to bed

🛌 Lavender Sachet - Place a sachet filled with dried lavender flowers under your pillow or in a diffuser to smell during your sleep

 Lavender Tea - Drink a cup of tea made from lavender flowers for a soothing bedtime ritual

Any of these options will help relax your mind and body before bed.

It’s almost like I form a mental checklist of things to do before I get into bed.

  • Diffuser on 30 minutes before bed? Tick ✅

  • Sleep mask resting on my head? Tick ✅

  • Oura ring on? Tick ✅

The nightly routine signals to my mind that I’m ready for bed.

Implement your own little routine before bed.

It seriously helps fall to sleep quicker.

Interesting Sleep Fact

Something VERY interesting hit my desk this week that I had to share with you all.

An article was written about an anti-aging and the secret skin ingredient.

Yes, it was published on the Daily Mail. Is the Daily Mail the embodiment of top tier journalism?

Hell no.

BUT many doctors were interviewed and surveyed for the article and the science behind it is interesting.

I know what you’re gonna say.

Who has the time to read lengthy daily mail articles!?

I know you don’t.

But like that trusty friend who supports you in every argument, I’ve got your back, so you don’t have to read it.

Here are the key takeaways from the article:

  1. The True Anti-Aging Antidote is ‘Beauty sleep’

  • All of the doctors say to forget about the expensive skin care lotions and solutions, sleep is your real skin saver

  • Sufficient sleep will brighten your under-eyes, reduce wrinkles, rebuild collagen and repair UV damage

  1. More Sleep, Less Stress

  • Your cortisol levels, which is your body’s stress hormone, has a direct relationship to sleep. Less sleep = more cortisol

  • Too much cortisol = degraded collagen = premature skin sagging and wrinkles

  • Getting quality sleep allows collagen to be restored, which strengthens your skin so there’s fewer wrinkles with a brighter complexion and reduced puffiness

  1. Get that Melatonin & HGH into you

  • When you sleep, the body releases melatonin and human growth hormone (HGH) that fights against ‘free radicals’ that damage cells and causes you to age faster

  • If you don’t get consistent, quality sleep, your cells become damaged far quicker and your skin will suffer

  1. The right amount of beauty sleep

  • According to doctors and sleep experts, 7-9 hours of consistent sleep is required each night

So there you have it!

People burn THOUSANDS of dollars on skincare lotions and creams every year but forget about the actual material they rest their face on every single night.

So buy a quality pillowcase.

It’ll have a double positive effect - it will reduce bacteria developing on your skin and will help improve your sleep performance.
