Sleep Hack Of The Week

Listen up.

If you know anything about me, you know I like to tinker with my sleep.

I’m like that person who tweaks their recipe each time they cook.

I’m always trying to find the little % improvements.

Because think about it, the marginal improvements add up.

8 hours a night x 365 days per year x the rest of your lifetime …. you get the point.

The marginal improvements definitely compound.

Well, I’ve found another GREAT sleep hack to share with you all.

Nose tape. More specifically referred to as nasal strips.

Quick exercise.

Take a deep breath through your nose.

Then use your thumb and index finger to pinch the middle part of your nose and push it upwards.

Breath again.

Feel the difference?

The space in your nostrils widens, which allows more air to enter and makes it easier to breath.

Nasal strips do this while you sleep.

They are a flexible, spring-like band that’s embedded within a soft, adhesive pad.

It’s early days, but nasal strips have SIGNIFICANTLY improve how I feel when I wake up in the mornings.

I also don’t wake up during the night as much as I used to.

The other benefit?

I’m a chronic mouth sleeper, but the increased airways from using the nasal strip feels like a switch has been flicked in my brain to breath more through my nose.

They also help:

Plus, I look pretty cool wearing this every night, right? …… right?

I guess we can’t all have the confidence of Alex Hormozi to use them in public.

Full disclosure - I think they actually look kind of baller

But in the privacy of your own home? Give it a go!

I’ve been using Recovery Mate’s product, but I’m not tied to them.

There are plenty of other alternatives on Amazon worth exploring.

Sleep easy.

 Interesting Sleep Fact

At COZO, we like to go the extra mile.

We don’t take half measures here.

Every COZO customer knows this.

Our sleep masks and pillowcases always have a few interesting goodies inside the packaging.

And when it comes to the Sleep Newsletter?

Well, things don’t change.

So today, the interesting sleep fact segment is a quick fact that I honestly I didn’t know

AND

An explainer on why we dream.

The fact? Here it is.

‘Without exception, every single living animal species sleeps.’

Pigs. Insects. Bees. Sharks. Cockroaches. Fish. Frogs.

All get shut eye.

Think of the most obscure living thing you can think of - it sleeps.

You know what’s cooler?

Some animals, like the lion and tiger, sleep for 15 hours a day.

Elephants? They only need four.

I don’t know about you.

But I always thought sea animals didn’t sleep (who has time for that with sharks around??)

But I was wrong.

So it led me down a rabbit hole.

Why do we dream in our sleep?

Here’s the quick and short answer:

During dreaming, our brains work through emotional experiences from the day.

This process helps decrease the emotional intensity of our experiences, making them easier to handle when we're awake.

So pretty much, our dreams serve as a form of overnight therapy.

But there are many other benefits to dreaming, which I may go into more detail in another edition.

This includes

✅ Enhanced problem solving and creativity

✅ Memory Consolidation

✅ Emotional and Social Brain Function

Turns out, your dreams DO matter.

In more ways than one.
