Sleep Hack Of The Week

I’ve got something for you.

A rhetorical question.

Do you know what is the worst feeling in the world?

Is it stubbing a toe on the corner of your bed, you wonder.

That hurts, but no.

Is it walking to your car and seeing a parking ticket flap in the wind on the front windscreen?

Getting warmer…

But no.

Let me tell you.

The worst feeling in the world is lying awake in bed, and not being able to fall asleep.

That is an undeniable fact.

You try to fall asleep.

You can’t.

Your mind tells you to try harder.

And the harder you try, the further you push sleep away.

Now all you can think about is how you can’t sleep.

It’s a vicious cycle.

Your mind when you try and sleep

The common thing people do is stay in bed and toss and turn for hours without falling asleep.

Well, I’m here to tell you that there’s a better approach if you can’t sleep on the first try.

GET OUT OF BED.

Its counterintuitive, but if you are in bed for longer than 30 minutes and can’t sleep, it’s the best thing to do.

Get up. Go to a different room, and do something without a screen.

Meditate, read a book, listen to a podcast.

Don’t eat or work, because it ends up training your brain to wake up to do those things.

After 20 minutes of that, go back to bed and try again.

Try not to think too much the second time around.

This is a tip to action for an important reason.

If you start to spend a lot of time awake in bed, your brain quickly associates and learns that your bed is the place where you’re always awake.

And that’s not a situation you want to be in.

It can feel like you’re abandoning your chances of sleep, but treat it like taking one step back to take two steps forward.

You’d rather that than not progress with your sleep at all and lie awake all night.

Give it a go!

 Interesting Sleep Fact

This is something I’ve made clear about sleep from the beginning.

It is the single, most important activity when it comes to your health.

And this fact proves it in a little known way…

When you under sleep, your body feels less full and far hungrier.

And it isn’t just a small amount…

If you under sleep, you will consume on average 300 MORE calories per meal.

That equates to a 3-7kg weight increase over the year with the sweet intake increasing by 40%.

So, I come to you once again to say …. prioritise your sleep!

You can do as much running and weights as possible.

But if you aren’t getting enough sleep, your brain will tell you things that aren’t true about your appetite.

And the consequences will be felt on your hips.

“How is your Eucalyptus material made?”

Give me a dollar every time I’ve been asked this question.

No, seriously.

I think I’d be close to a millionaire.

And it’s completely fair.

Eucalyptus material, or TENCEL lyocell as it’s known, is still a new, environmentally friendly way to create a fabric that feels similar to silk.

And its production process is an interesting one.

It uses far more energy and water than Mulberry silk, and zero animals or insects are harmed in its production.

So I decided to create a blog post that details everything about our Eucalyptus material;

  • Where the materials are sourced;

  • How it’s made;

  • The benefits of using Eucalyptus over Mulberry;

  • Other interesting facts about Eucalyptus;

If you want to know more about the material you are sleeping on (or will be sleeping on soon), please read the blog post here

Here’s a teaser diagram of the eco-friendly ‘closed loop process’ used to produce lyocell.

And on that note, time to hit the hay.

I’d love to hear from you!

Until next time 💤
